Updates & News from 2009
December 17, 2009 - It has been a very busy fall and I have been unable to update the website as much as I would have liked. However, I have added a recent edition of the Visions journal to the "CBT Resources" page. The entire edition focusses on cognitive-behavioral therapy and provides a really nice description of CBT for a variety of conditions.
October 7, 2009 - Uploaded a new workbook to the "PTSD Resources" page for families in which one of the parents has PTSD. The workbook was developed by Veterans Affairs Canada and is a good resource for tips on how to manage young children in a family with PTSD.
July 31, 2009 - I appeared on the CTV National News this evening, commenting on a story about a new research study about trichotillomania. See the news story HERE and watch the video HERE.
June 25, 2009 - I was interviewed today by Global TV News for a story about how people are able to cope with tramatic experiences in adaptive and positive ways. It was a just a brief comment emphasizing the importance of focussing on what resources are available to a person rather than focussing on potential negative outcomes.
June 17, 2009 - Added a link on the "OCD Resources" page to the A&E television series "Obsessed". One of the best shows I have seen describing true stories of OCD (as well as other anxiety conditions) and cognitive-behavioral treatment.
April 21, 2009 - Uploaded an excellent information sheet about panic attacks and panic disorder from AnxietyBC. The information sheet details some of the features of panic attacks and the differences between panic attacks and panic disorder. It is available on the "Panic Resources" page.
March 20, 2009 - Added a terrific information sheet describing the features and principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy to the "CBT Resources" page. The information sheet was developed by AnxietyBC and provides a very nice summary of CBT.
February 27, 2009 - Uploaded a new chapter of a workbook called "What, Me Worry - Overview of Worry" to the "GAD Resources" page. The chapter describes a model of understanding worry and a number of the factors that tend to maintain excessive worry.
February 18, 2009 - I have accepted a new position as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. In the position, I will be training PhD level graduate students in how to do therapy via telehealth with remote communities in BC.
February 4, 2009 - I have uploaded a new information sheet to the "OCD Resources" page. It is from AnxietyBC and provides information on obsessions, compulsions, how OCD can affect a person's daily life and related anxiety.
January 18, 2009 - I have added a new GUESTBOOK to the site to allow for feedback and comments about the website. Click here to visit the GUESTBOOK and let me know what you think.
January 2, 2009 - Happy New Year! I look forward to 2009 being another successful year for this website and plan on adding more content and useful information throughout the year. Please check back regularly to see what's new!
